Construct2-logong_logo

We joined Construct 2030 Jam with the theme Future 2030 arranged by Construct 2 and hosted on Newgrounds. We made a game called Escape From Darkness“. In the game we try to escape a dark labyrinth before our light expires. We spent about a week for the game and there are 8 levels to play.

EscapFromDarkness-Banner

The jam had also the contest format and our game entered the 15 runner-ups sharing the 10th rank. We made the game together with Polish game designer Artur Roszczyk and Polish graphics artist Agata Kowalewicz, coordinated on Skype.

Escape-from-darkness-screenshot2

We used dynamic music approach. There are various filter effects on the music. Many events such as menu screen, win, loose, enemy in sight, energy level are tied to a sound effect. This way we acquired a dynamic and long lasting music backing the game feel. You can listen to the original music without in game effects below. To see the effects in action you need to play the game.

You can play our game here, the winners here, and all games that participated here. (You need a Chrome browser for the filter effects work right.)

June 16, 2014 in Compositions, Game Soundtrack, Guney Ozsan, Music, News, Video Game Music

Mind Mould 2, the puzzle game that I made original music and SFX is published for iPhone and iPad. Mind Mould 2 is a Tangram style rotate and fit the shapes game. Apart from Tangram, the parts aren’t picked from a pool but given randomly like in Tetris. So every level has a different solution for every play. You can download the game from iTunes.

Mind Mould 2 has an abstract industrial sci-fi atmosphere made of metalic creatures. Here is the psychedelic main music and the trailer video of the game below.

I Miss My Amiga 500 (Amiga Day Free Release)

May 31, 2014 in Analog Sheep, Events, Music, News, Releases, Single

InternationalAmigaDay-May31st

I celebrate May 31st, I. International Amiga Day with a free download of my electronic music project Analog Sheep’s Amiga tribute song “I Miss My Amiga 500”.

Free downloads are available on my SoundCloud and Bandcamp pages and open for the whole weekend until Monday June 2nd.

And here is its music video for YouTube users.

So, what is I. International Amiga Day?

Amiga Day is an idea put forward by a Facebook group called Amiga Day. Here is the manifesto of the International Amiga Day published in the group description.

Amiga Day (I. International Amiga Day)

We, Amiga users hereby declare the 31st of May as international day of the Amiga, the Home Computer that made us so much fun, that made us begin a career, that made us think differently about computers and games and made us a lot of friends with Amigas.

Amiga is Forever and We really want that to happen. Please share the idea with your Amigan friends to keep the Amiga flame forever!

How can you participate? It’s easy – On Amiga Day do any of the following Amigan activities:

– You must switch on at least 1 Amiga computer.
– You must run at least 1 Amiga game (emulator is accepted).
– You must „whiten” a yellowed Amiga.
– You must give your non-working Amiga to a technician, who can make a working machine out of the non-working ones. Lather on the reborn working Amiga must be donated.
– In case you are a technician you must make at least one Amiga working from non-working Amigas.
– If you have an Amiga T-Shirt, you must wear it.
– If none of the above you can make a photo of yourself with an Amiga and share it with your friends on any social networks.
– Or whatever Amiga related activity you like…

So, let’s make the first International Amiga Day on Jay Miner’s 82nd birthday a real celebration of the best ever home-computer – The Amiga!

Please Invite your fellow Amigans and SHARE the Amiga feeling to everybody!

See you on 31st of May of 2014, on the first Amiga Day!

Now go and enjoy your Amiga Day full of Amiga activities!

Cosmoplan: A Space Puzzle – Original Music & SFX

December 11, 2013 in Compositions, Game Soundtrack, Guney Ozsan, Music, News, Video Game Music

Cosmoplan, the puzzle/action game that I made original orchestral music and SFX is published on iOs and Android after a development process that took almost a year. You can get Cosmoplan from here:
iTunes
Google Play

Cosmoplan is a game about the obscurity of space and the human instinct of discovery. In the game, we control a space shuttle made of sub-modules and try to reach a target planet without crushing into any obstacles. In order to achieve this, we need to estimate our path in advance and arrange the angles between the modules . After the launch, we can only change direction by ejecting the modules that we’ve set different angles with right timing. During our voyage, we try to collect three stars spread around the space. The deeper we travel in the space we face asteroids, planets that we can make use of their orbits, worm holes that we can get through and plasma giants driving electricity through the space.

Cosmoplan-Screenshot-2

Cosmoplan-Screenshot-1

The idea behind the theme and the gameplay of Cosmoplan depends on the game “Atilgan (venturous, also USS Enterprise of Star Trek series in Turkish TV broadcast)” that we made during the jam with theme “Atilim (Breakthrough)” held within the National Informatics Congress 2012 (Ulusal Bilisim Kurultayi). Our team in this 48 hour jam was consisting of me, Emrah Ozer, Murat Kalkavan and Tarik Kaya. During the event we wanted to approach the politic breaktroughs of nations with humour. National space programs were very convenient for this approach. The core mechanics of the game were inspired from the space shuttles leaving the modules that gone out of fuel behind. The name Atilgan (venturous) was a pun in Turkish for the theme of the game jam Atilim (breakthrough). Plus, since the Turkish TV translated USS Enterprise of Star Trek series to Turkish as Atilgan, we also said hi to the famous science fiction series.

Atilgan-Title

inGame

After the game jam we liked the idea much and we decided to push further the the 48 hour prototype by developing it into a complete game and publishing it. Although the idea of travelling in space still stays same, the background theme evolved from breakthrough to discovery and obscurity, leaving the humouristic part behind. Eventually the game art style evolved into pinup with references to what we can see in 60’s and 70’s as in Russian posters and sci-fi movies like 2001: A Space Odyssey.

Cosmoplan-Icon

The game was developed by Emrah Ozer, one of the founding members of the group Game Developers Turkey (GDT). The visuals were designed by the experienced illustrator Murat Kalkavan. Tarik Kaya gave great support during the level design and concept development phase. And I composed original orchestral music fitting the style of the new artistic look and reproduced the orchestra completely artificially in computer.

“I Miss My Amiga 500” Hit 1.000 Plays on SoundCloud

October 28, 2013 in Analog Sheep, Music, News

My tribute to Amiga era became my third song to hit 1.000 plays on SoundCloud.

I can call this song as the beginning of Analog Sheep project. I wanted to start my electronic music journey from my oldest inspiration which was my Amiga 500. I need to pay it back before doing anything else.

This song also helped me to create a special connection with Australian indie game developer Muzboz. At those days he was working on his first game Rad Skater Apocalypse Boom!, an arcade runner also inspired by his childhood memories of Amiga. I send him my Amiga tribute and after listening to it he asked me to make music for his game keeping Amiga in mind. I made three more tracks for Muzboz’s game. Later I published a soundtrack EP of the game and added I Miss My Amiga 500 as the bonus track. Here is the complete EP:

Misket Dance (Misket Havasi) Hit 1.000 Plays on SoundCloud

September 17, 2013 in Analog Sheep, Compositions, Game Soundtrack, Guney Ozsan, Music, News, Releases, Single, Video Game Music

“Ankara Misket Dance (Chiptune Electro Swing Version)” from my electronica project Analog Sheep became my second song to hit 1.000 plays on SoundCloud. As expected Turkish audience have a nice contribution on the arrangement of this classic Turkish folk dance.

Let’s recall, Misket Dance (Misket Havasi) is an interesting folk dance from Ankara region of Turkey with a melody appearing only on off-beats. 3rd and 4th 16th’s are also used a lot to embellish melodies. Originally the dancers accompany the music with a special rhythm played with a couple of wooden spoons in each hand (Here, the same rhythm is played with small finger cymbals).

A few number of authentic songs of this style are very popular at Turkish wedding celebrations. 10-20 minutes of sets made of Ankara style dances are played at almost all wedding celebrations. In addition to that, still there is a great number of songs created using the same musical style, its own urban subculture is already emerged especially around Ankara the capital city of Turkey.

Originally the piece is made on request for a video game for children on iOS, “Misket ile Kismet, Bir Ankara Macerasi” (Misket and Kismet, an Ankara Adventure) by Zbam Games and Municipality of Ankara.

First Song to Hit 1.000 Plays on SoundCloud

August 19, 2013 in Album, Analog Sheep, Compositions, Game Soundtrack, Guney Ozsan, Music, News, Releases, Video Game Music

Boulevard of Electric Dreams from my electronica project Analog Sheep‘s first EP Rad Skater Apocalypse Soundtrack became the first song to hit 1.000 plays on SoundCloud.

Boulevard of Electric Dreams is an Amiga and chiptune inspired dance track with pure analog sound, progressive structure based on synth riffs oriented from rock music and melodic synth solos again based on progressive rock.

I composed the piece in 2012 for the game Rad Skater Apocalypse made by the independent game developer Muzboz from Australia. The game is an arcade runner in which a skater boy takes his synthesizer under his arm and tries to rescue the world from 8 bit zombies and aliens. The game is published on iPhone and iPad. Recently, the game became free for download and the free version is called “Rad Skater Apocalypse Boom!”.

You can download the game from itunes using this link:

Boulevard of Electric Dreams is one of the three tracks I made for Rad Skater Apocalypse. I published all the songs as an EP, including a bonus track “I Miss My Amiga 500”, a tribute to the Amiga era and another popular Analog Sheep track. Here is the complete EP:

Rad Skater Apocalypse Game is Now For Free

August 14, 2013 in Analog Sheep, Compositions, Game Soundtrack, Guney Ozsan, Music, News, Video Game Music

In 2012, I made three Amiga inspired retro pieces for the soundtrack of the game Rad Skater Apocalypse and published them under my electronic music project Analog Sheep. The game has now been released in a FREE version “Rad Skater Apocalypse Boom!”. Now it’s a universal build that works on iPad and iPhone.

You can download the game for free here: Rad Skater Apocalypse Boom! on iTunes

Rad Skater Apocalypse is the first game of independent developer Murray Lorden (Muzboz Games) from Australia. Murray has worked for 10 years in the Melbourne games industry, and has now packed his knapsack, and set off for his own indie adventures.

Check it out, if you haven’t played it already. It starts off gently, and introduces the new baddies, hazards and powers as you clock up some more point, so give it a go for a few minutes and things start to heat up. :) Once you’ve unlocked stuff, it stays unlocked, so you don’t have to sit through the quiet bit after that.

And here is the soundtrack EP that I made for Rad Skater Apocalypse. It includes all the three tracks from the game plus the bonus track “I Miss My Amiga 500“, a vintage tribute to the Amiga era.
